MTV Networks Partner Offers spam

My Gmail occasionally catches spam from MTV. They have an unsubscribe button, but they never follow through on my request. I got this today:

from MTV Networks
reply-to postmaster@mms.mtv.com
subject Paranormal Activity 2 - Be the first to see it. Demand it!
mailed-by mms.mtv.com
signed-by mms.mtv.com

To ensure delivery to your inbox, please add mtvoffers@mms.mtv.com to your address book.
You are receiving this message because you asked for occasional updates and special offers from the Viacom family of companies.

All of the MTV spam have URLs composed like http://strongmail-5.west.mtvi.com/track?type=xxx

Clicking those images leads to http://movies.eventful.com/competitions/paranormalactivity2010?utm_source=email&utm_medium=competition&utm_campaign=mtv_announcement_email.

The unsubscribe at the bottom says,"MTV Networks Partner Offers Thank You. Your email address is scheduled to be unsubscribed from all MTV Networks Partner Offer emails. Please allow up to 10 days for completion." This can't be, as I've been unsubscribing for months... The privacy policy isn't better, nor are the terms of use.

I'll be filing a complaint pretty soon. I guess I should also save these spam.

  1. I found this as I was reading through their privacy policy it is an unsubscribe link http://exodus.mtv.com/site/unsubscribe_email

...the only thing is they say my email is not registered with them...yeah right! MTV is a very shady company, maybe it will work for you.

  2. They have been spaming me as well even though I have multiple times unsubbed from the different sites they mail from, I never signed or agreed to recieve mail from them in the first place, I even went so far to send in a abuse report to Viacom, which surprisingly has done nada, nor have they even answered any of my mails.

    shady as heck indeed, :S

  3. For what it's worth, September 22, 2010 was probably the last time I've gotten anything from them...

  5. MTV SUCKS! I never subscribed to MTV's e-mails and it's impossible to unsubscribe from their SPAM. I tried the unsubscribe link included in their e-mails several times. It's been 3 months that I've been getting MTV's SPAM. I filed a couple of abuse reports but to no use. MTV SUCKS and should be sued for SPAM!

  6. I have the same problem. I don't know how I got on this list, and I've been trying to unsubscribe for months! I'm filing a complaint with the FTC. www.ftc.gov

  8. FTC never really responds... Though the volume of spam from MTV has dropped a lot.

  9. Same exact problem here. You are not alone!

  10. Same problem, been getting spam for months. I'm not even in the US so they should take their spam where the sun don't shine.

Spam does not happy customer make!

  12. I'm getting so tired of this MTV spam. Aren't there laws against spamming nowadays?

  13. I've been having the same problem. Today, I finally found an e-mail that got me a response: privacy-admin [at] mtv [dot] com

The rep wrote me back in a few hours saying they would manually remove me from all Viacom offers. We'll see if it works!

  14. I too have the same problem. I have unsubscribed from every possible subset of the viacom/mtv network. It does nothing. There is always some new network/show/offer using a new reply address sending offers.

There needs to be a unsubscribe from all option, but they do not make it available. I smell lawsuit with this one. They are making no attempts to be honest here.

  15. Hello,

Sorry that you are experiencing an inconvenience while trying to unsubscribe from our emails. We are investigating why the unsubscribe feature isn’t working for you. We will be manually removing your email from all correspondence going forward.

Please note, your request has been submitted for removal from all future Viacom related correspondence. It takes a couple of days for the request to propagate throughout but rest assured that you will be completely removed from our newsletter dispatches.

    Thank you,
    Sandy

  17. Thanks b. Sent a 'cease & desist' request to the same privacy-admin email. ....will see if it works.

  18. I am trying the suggestions here to see if privacy-admin will work in removing my e-mail. Thanks.

  19. They are a dirty company i am having the same problem and cannot stop them.

  20. It's happening to me, too. The unsubscribe feature does not work. I will be filing a complaint with the authorities. Maybe a lawsuit, too.

  21. send an email to privacy-admin@mtv.com

here's what I sent and their response:

"Unsubscribe my email address from MTV and all MTV Networks Partner Offer emails effective immediately."

    From MTV privacy admin:

"We have received your request to unsubscribe from receipt of marketing emails from MTV.com. In accordance with your request, we are processing your email address for removal from the relevant database(s). Please let us know if you have any further concerns and/or believe you have received any further marketing emails in error.

    Thank you for your patience."

    We'll see if it works!

  22. This is BS, I sent an email to mtv too and they didn't even reply. Viacom knows this is going on and they still are spamming. I also sent a complaint to the FTC, but I doubt that will do any good since Viacom has them in their pocket. If anyone wants to file a CANSPAM action against them, sign me up.

  23. The privacy-admin@mtv.com is obviously not working. I contacted Viacom directly and the operator told me that they get calls for this all the time. Seems to me that if Viacom knows about the issue and isn't addressing it that they should have some liability. They told me that the only way to stop the emails is to send a remove request to DL_MTV-applicationsupportexodus@viacom.com They won't allow you to speak to anyone personally and won't confirm receipt of the unsubscribe request. This has to be illegal somehow. I tried submitting a complaint with the government, but they told me that I had the wrong agency, can someone please help me figure out how to make these emails stop?

  24. I keep unsubscribing to no avail. More MTV spam comes. Maybe the cable company keeps selling them my email adress.
